English soccer giants Liverpool have announced that they will be opening a new academy in China.
The youth development coaching project, which will initially be provided to a selection of schools in the city of Kunming, is the result of a partnership with the Kunming Municipal Bureau of Education.
Daniel Reece, the head coach at Liverpool’s international academy, will be based in Kunming to oversee the programme.
A key element of the academy will involve delivering coach education clinics, which will help to improve the standards of local soccer coaches in the region.
The Premier League club say that the programme’s mission is to develop the participants both on and off the pitch by encouraging them to get active through soccer, while also improving skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership.

“We are extremely excited to be bringing the LFC International Academy to Kunming,” said Ian Rush, an ambassador for Liverpool’s international academy.
“The curriculum is based on the LFC Academy philosophy and practices; with an active and educational programme, that will provide excellent opportunities for local players and coaches in China.”
