It was 52 years ago that Eusebio received the Golden Ball

Distinguished on December 28, 1965, the Black Panther had the trophy in his hands on 1966.

Precisely 52 year ago, it was taking place at the old Estádio da Luz the match of European Cup quarter-finals between Benfica and Manchester United. At home, in front of nearly 75 thousand spectators, Eusébio – at the time with only 22 years – would received the prize in person and would become the first Portuguese to be distinguished by the France Football magazine.

To this day, the former Benfica forward and the great name of world football is still the only Portuguese player to receive the award while representing a Portuguese club.
